NuvaRing is the trade name for a combined hormonal contraceptive vaginal ring used by approximately 1.5 million women worldwide and manufactured by Organon USA. NuvaRing contains the hormones estrogen and etonogestrel which is a form of the progestin desogestrel.

Unlike the pill, which is ingested before the hormones that it contains are released into the body, NuvaRing releases its hormones directly into the bloodstream, raising the likelihood of a blood clot by over 30%.
