Accutane

Accutane is a topical dermatologic agent used in the treatment of acne and several other skin diseases. It is mainly prescribed as anti-acne agent, anti-rosacea agent and keratinization stabilizer. Accutane has been available through prescription as a treatment for severe acne since 1983. It is currently available in about 80 countries.

Unfortunately, Accutane has been linked to serious side effects, which include:

  • Birth defects. Accutane can cause birth defects, premature births, and death in babies whose mothers took Accutane while they were pregnant.
  • Serious brain problems. Accutane can increase the pressure in your brain. This can lead to permanent loss of sight, or in rare cases, death. Also, some patients taking Accutane have had seizures or stroke.
  • Abdomen problems. Certain symptoms may mean that your internal organs are being damaged. These organs include the liver, pancreas, bowel , and esophagus. If your organs are damaged, they may not get better even after you stop taking Accutane.
  • Depression and Suicide - Accutane has been linked to severe depression and suicide.
